Clarification of SPAS Opinion

All:
Earlier this week I posted a request for information regarding
research administration software. In that posting I mentioned that we had
evaluated SPAS and found it to be unacceptable. Several people, and
InfoEd, have called me for explanations of that opinion, so, at the request
of the InfoEd people, I will post one for all to see. We evaluated SPAS
about 1.5-2 years ago when we did the last update of our home-grown database
system. We found SPAS to be unacceptable for 2 reasons: 1) it was DOS
(not Windows) based, and 2) it did not provide any functionality not already
present in our own
system.
The people from InfoEd tell me that they now have a Windows
version and a Web based version available. Although I have not seen either
of those versions to compare to the version we evaluated, they may be
much better and worth a look. In fact, we are going to look at them
ourselves.
On another note, within hours after my last posting, which also
mentioned that we had been unable to get the people from NextEra to
respond to our requests for information and pricing, they, too, were on the
phone and FAX, sending all sorts of stuff.
This listserv is powerful stuff!
