POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Grants/Contracts Manager assists the
Director of the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs in managing
the externally sponsored grants and contracts activity of the
University. The Grants/Contracts Manager serves as a member of a
team of professional and support staff who provide university-wide
leadership in the development and administration of research and
sponsored programs. These activities cover the full range of
disciplines represented by the University=92s seven colleges and other
programmatic units, with strengths in the life sciences and
biotechnology, engineering, and the physical sciences. Established in
1804, Ohio University=92s total external support for research and other
sponsored activities exceeded $30 million in 1996.
RESPONSIBILITIES: This position assists the Director in administering
the grants management operation for the University, including the
preparation of applications, negotiation of contracts, and post-award
compliance. The Grants/Contracts Manager reports to the Director
of Research and Sponsored Programs.
QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates for the position must hold a bachelor=92s
degree; masters degree preferred. A minimum of 2 years of experience
in administration is required, preferably in a university setting.
Experience as a funded-project director or in grant or project
management or administration is preferred. The position requires a
broad arts and sciences background and some knowledge of the basic
principles of contracting and budgeting for project support.
Experience using Microsoft Excel or Lotus 1-2-3 spreadsheets and
computer database packages is preferred.
