Re: Receipt Dates for NIH AREA Grants

This is to follow up on my previous posting to this Research Administrators
listserv in which I mentioned potential changes to NIH's AREA program. One
of the changes is to increase the number of receipt dates to three per
year; and, in this regard, I had indicated that it was unclear whether
there would be a receipt date in May or June of this year, given that time
is getting short, and that we would have one in September.
Well, there has been an official decision that we will have a receipt date
in June this year (as we've had for many years); and, it will be June 25.
Then, beginning in September we will start with our new system in which
there will be three receipt dates a year (September 25, January 25, and
May 25).
We plan to publish the official program guidelines for the AREA program in
the NIH Guide to Grants and Contracts in early April, and we'll also be
announcing the changes to the program at the April Dialogue of the Council
on Undergraduate Research to be held here at NIH on April 11.
Thanks for everyone's patience while we've sorted out the receipt date
issue. It's certainly given me a chance to talk/exchange e-mail with a lot
of interested (and interesting) research administrators and investigators.
