Research Corporation: It Just Won't Die! Martha Spalding 19 Feb 1997 16:21 EST

Dear colleagues:
I am on a mission to garner information for the administration so they can
make a rational, logical decision about whether to yet again stalk the
elusive Research Corporation. We are a small graduate college, about to be
merged with a larger
university, which already HAS a research corporation (is anyone following this?)
I would like to be of some help in supplying some technical "nuts and bolts"
kind of information about:

1. What factors should a college take into account when thinking about
forming an RC?
2. Has anyone compiled any kind of a process paper, abstract, handbook, etc.?
3. Any espcially horrific tales about the tax landscapte (like the films
they showed you
in driver's ed in high school)
4. Are there any advantages in forming an RC?
5. If you had to do it over, would your institution indeed pursue this holy
grail?

Any information you can supply will be most welcome.
Thanks.
