POSITION:      Director of Grants and Sponsored Programs

 DATE OF
 APPOINTMENT:   July 1, 1997, or as soon thereafter as possible

 RESPONSIBILITIES:      This position reports to the Dean of Graduate Studies =
and Research.  The position assists and coordinates the university's =
pre-award services to all personnel (faculty, administrators and staff) =
who seek external grant funding for teaching, research, scholarship, =
service and creative activities. The director serves as liaison between =
the Dean of College of Graduate Studies and Research and grantmakers and =
grant administrators in federal, state and local units of government as =
well as private and corporate foundations, and collaborates with other =
Grants and Sponsored Programs staff, as well as institutional committees =
and offices to strengthen research and service at Mankato State =
University.

 QUALIFICATIONS
 REQUIRED:      *       Earned Masters
 *       2 years of university level teaching experience
 *       2 years of research and grants/contract experience
 *       Experience with grants and contracts budgeting
 *       Excellent creative and technical writing skills
 *       Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
 *       Computer and telecommunications skills including on-line searchi
ng =
skills; knowledge of internet
 resources; desktop publishing, database/spreadsheet and word =
processing skills

 PREFERRED:     *       Experience in directing an office of grants in higher =
education
 *       Research and thesis experience
 *       Successful experience in business/industry/government alliance a
nd =
partnership projects
