Information Dissemination--Job Description Survey Phillip Myers 27 Jan 1997 17:45 EST

I need help from list members with the survey questions below.
Please respond directly to me by fax, phone, or e-mail (numbers below,
too) and I will summarize for the list. Of course, I need this
information yesterday, but would appreciate it as soon as you can
 provide it.

The Office of Sponsored Programs at Western Kentucky University is
in the process of developing a job description and determining a
classification and compensation level for the person who is
responsible for dissemination of Sponsored Programs information to
faculty and staff on our campus. We consider this position vital to
our departmental success and are hoping to upgrade the position from
its current level; however, no other department on our campus has a
position equivalent to this one, so Human Resources needs more
 information

We expect this person to be responsible for:
 1. maintaining our WWW site,
 2. publishing a monthly hard copy newsletter,
 3. assisting in monitoring electronic publications from the Office of
Federal Programs and other funding information sources,
 4. being a resource for faculty and staff who need help downloading
forms and policies from our web site and other sites of interest to
 grant seekers and proposal writers,
 5. helping faculty and staff with SPIN searches,
 6. assisting with Sponsored Programs workshops (e.g. logistical
arrangements and sometimes presenting on topics related to electronic
 resources, affiliation agreements, etc),
 7. coordinating subgrant activity and affiliation agreements
(processing contracts, maintaining databases, communicating with
faculty about requirements and necessary language),
 8. answering questions from faculty and staff about any of the above
topics (questions come via phone, walk-in visitors, e-mail, etc.), and
 9. supervising the work-study students

 QUESTIONS:

 1. Do you have a similar position in your Sponsored Programs office?
If not, who in your office is responsible for performing each of the
duties we have included in our list? (Please list titles.)

 2. If you do have such a position, what other duties is this position
 responsible for?

 3. What is the title for the person in this position? (Information
Coordinator and Information Manager are titles used by some Sponsored
 Programs offices.)

 4. What is the minimum level of education and experience required for
 this position? Preferred?

 5. Is the position considered exempt or non-exempt? Professional or
 clerical?

 6. What is the pay range for this position on your campus?

 7. How many full-time staff members does your Sponsored Programs
office employ? (Is yours a combined pre- and post-award office?)

 8. How many full-time faculty and staff members does your University
 employ?

 9. What skills and qualifications would you look for when filling a
 position like ours?

 10. What are your thoughts about the necessity of a position like this
 in a Sponsored Programs office?

Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated. Please reply to:
