I would also be interested in any feedback dealing with a combined pre-
and post-award office, particularly from mid-sized institutions.  We
manage approximately $25 million in sponsored activity and currently
have "split" functions.  Intuitively this seems rather inefficient.  At various
points in time we have considered merging the two but cannot really
identify a single "compelling" reason to do so.  Given that the two
functions have different reporting lines and may well involve some
politicking, a compelling reason(s) is an important issue relative to making
a case for combining the functions.

I would be happy to discuss pros and cons with interested individuals.
