Contact Management Software

I'm curious to know whether any research offices use commercial contact
management software, such as ACT!, in addition to whatever proposal/award
management software they may be utilizing. Obviously, the contacts that you
would be managing are investigators and other "clients". ACT! appears to
provide a lot of features that would make it attractive for sending reminder
memos (on paper or via e-mail) and the like to investigators. One very nice
feature is that it contains a calendar so that it might be possible to
schedule mailings, perhaps even have a memo be sent automatically to a P.I.
90 or 120 days prior to the due date for a progress report, etc.
If anyone uses ACT! or a commercial application like it, I would be very
interested in hearing about what you use it for and how you may have
integrated it into your office function. Thanks for all replies.
