We are currently revising our intellectual property/patent policy to
address the issue of contract physicians and other medical
professionals. These are individuals with whom the hospital contracts
for various medical services and, as a result, receive many of the same
benefits and support within the research program and full time hospital
employees. However, for research endeavors that may lead to patents,
hospital support varies and necessitates different approaches when
negotiating patent rights and royalty distributions. How do other
institutions handle these issues? Do you have policies you would share?
