we require al projects to be reviewed by our scientific review
committee and through that process they get entered into a data
system. it is this system that is used for the foundation for the
core monitoring and chargebacks. as a pi utilizes core services they
need to provide the project number.  we have given most pi's a number
for development work as well.  each core logs utilization in th
esystem and then this data is paired up with a charge master. the
result is an invoice which goes to a pi. this system works well for
us by allowing the collection of core work units (key for core
grants, etc), ensuring the institution is aware of all projects, and
managing the chargebacks.
