experienced, dynamic and energetic research administrator to join our
team. Over $170 million in grants and contracts was awarded to
Northwestern in fiscal year 1996.
RESEARCH ADMINISTRATOR
OFFICE OF RESEARCH AND SPONSORED PROGRAMS (ORSP)
NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY
Responsibilities:
Responsible for sponsored project administration including proposal
review and submission, contract negotiation, subcontract preparation,
and post-award administration through close-out for a select
constituency (medical, dental, and law schools). Works on special
assignments such as assessing funding trends and opportunities,
preparing special analyses and reports for central administration and
external sponsors, and develops training sessions for investigators
and administrative staff. Participates in the development and
implementation of new policies and revisions to existing policies.
Serves as a resource to ORSP staff in contract review and negotiation.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required, advanced degree preferred or equivalent
combination of education, training, and experience. Knowledge of
federal grant and contract administration, policies relating to the
protection of intellectual property rights, and cost principles for
educational institutions is expected. Previous work experience (at
least five years) in sponsored project administration at either an
educational institution, federal agency, or hospital. Experience
negotiating federal and industrial contracts, including a working
knowledge of FAR clauses applicable to educational institutions is
required. Experience in a biomedical research setting, including a
strong knowledge of NIH application procedures and policies as well as
experience negotiating clinical trial agreements, is a plus. Knowledge
of general management principles and practices, skill in dealing with
others in work relationships involving conflict resolution, and the
ability to make difficult decisions is essential.
Proficiency in word-processing, spreadsheet, and database software is
expected. Excellent oral and written communication skills and the
ability to work efficiently and effectively under deadline pressures
is critical. Strong service orientation is necessary.
Salary: Competitive and commensurate with experience
The ORSP staff of 20+ currently administers a portfolio in excess of
$170 million annually.
The position is available immediately and is located in our Chicago
