Re: Supplementary Funding for Sponsored Programs Offices

1. I have used student interns working on masters in technical
writing. Each took an (or multiple) proposals that had been unsuccessful
and drafted a rewrite for the PI. Proposals chosen were are the request
of the PI. Students also reported to their professor, who helped guide
them. Obviously, this works only with mature, sensitive students and if
the appropriate faculty member recruits such students.
2. I am the permanent member of the IRB and the IACUC, but each report
to a different entity. I go to the budget manager of that entity for
funding for printing of manuals, etc.
3. The library may be willing to partially fund a computerized directory
of sponsors such as SPIN, IRIS, Dialog, etc. OUr has done so for two
years. A small survey of people who would use it helped to make it a
priority.
