"Incentive"language in P& T policies
Martha Armstrong 12 Aug 1996 09:31 EST
Would anyone be willing to send me a couple of brief examples of
institutional "P&T" policies that reflect the weight given to grant
writing/getting when faculty are being considered for tenure? To what extent
do your respective institutions involve adjunct faculty in grant
procurement, and are there different "incentives" offered for them?
I have rec'd the following suggestions for incentives:
1. returning a portion of the recovered indirecost to the department/faculty
2. writeup the the OSP publication
3. recognition letter from president
4. annual hoe-down of some variety
If anyone has any other "carrots" or even "sticks" that work, please let me
know.
Suggestions from institutions that match our profile would be the most
helpful, but anyone please feel free to comment.
WE ARE: WV Graduate College, a public graduate only institution, serving
5000 (FTE) working adults, 70% female, 95% attending part-time. Our faculty
is 65% tenured, average length of time here is 12+ years. Turnover pretty
low. We use a truckload of adjunct faculty to deliver instruction to our
sites all over the state. The OSP here is a one-person shop (me).
thanks
