Beaumont Hospital's Board of Governors recently adopted a policy
prohibiting investigators from passing research expenses (defined as
anything that is not 'Standard of Care') to third party insurers. Only
two ways allowed around this: 1) the project sponsor pays for the
research related costs or 2) the subject is informed (in the CF) that
they will be responsible for certain expenses for participating in the
study. If '2' is used, the exact items/procedures and specific costs are
required in the CF. We have had very few 2's and then mostly for low cost
items like additional blood collection, etc.
