Grants Development Analyst

Under general supervision of the Director of Grants Development, advise
and assist faculty, staff and administrators in developing, budgeting and
processing proposals for external grants; follow up on proposals with
sponsors on negotiating contracts and grants; develop reports and
analyses of Grants Development Office (GDO) procedures and other research
and grant related issues; make recommendations for policy and procedural
changes to improve operation
of GDO.

Essential Functions

Provide technical assistance to faculty, staff and administrators in
proposal development, including recommending funding sources, reviewing
and editing proposal narratives, developing budgets, assuring compliance
with sponsor guidelines, final proposal processing and interface with
University and Foundation administrators for campus approval, submission
to funding agencies.

Follow up and coordinate with GDO and Foundation staff, and
representatives of external sponsoring agencies on status of proposals
and grants and to resolve pre-award contractual or program issues
involved in securing grants.

Provide information and guidance to individual faculty and staff, and
groups as requested, on grants development including how to: identify
funding sources, approach sponsors, develop projects, write grant
proposals, develop budgets, and obtain university clearances for proposal
submission.  Participate with the Director in presenting proposal writing
seminars.

Coordinate with staff in ensuring the availability of appropriate
information on funding agencies and grant programs as well as other grant
writing resources in the GDO.

Assist in coordination of informational interface between pre-award
University Grants Development Office and post-award Foundation Sponsored
Programs Office to maintain current information on the status of proposal
and awards.

Assist with preparation of GDO annual reports to campus and Chancellor's
Office.

Research, gather, write and maintain up-to-date background and
"boilerplate" information as needed on the university and its resources
for incorporation into proposals.

Assist with preparation and publication of a GDO electronic format
newsletter and with preparation and revision of GDO proposal writing
materials.

Qualifications: BS degree and two years of experience in pre-award
proposal and sponsored project development, preferably in a university
environment.  Masters preferred.  Knowledge of University research
administration including proposal preparation, budgeting, contracting,
and compliance is required.  Use of computer applications including word
processing, desktop publishing, spreadsheets, and database management.
Knowledge of Fastlane, Adobe Acrobat and WWW.  Strong interpersonal
skills.  Ability to communicate, both written and orally, in a
professional manner; to work effectively with a diverse clientele of
staff and faculty; to manage time and prioritize work under stressful
situations.
