Jane, the acquisition of excess/surplus government property can be a great deal
or poor deal.  Use of these source requires that you be very disciminating in
any propoerty you aquaire; try to talk to the people using the property current
ly or last used the property.  Too often, property is used until it is junk and
/or once it gets to a disposal yard, no longer is it given tender loving care.
Also, since DoD generally generates the largest amount of surplus/excess proper
ty, having DoD support will generally give you a higher property.  The down
side is accouintability if agauired under a contract or grant.

Bottom line, there are significant advantages; just be careful.
