We have taken the approach that nearby schools and community-based
organizations are potential project partners and have consulted on a no-fee
basis. Marquette views itself as an integral part of the community as a
result of a five year neighbrhood revitalization project called Campus
Circle that was initiated to save the neighborhood from further blight.
Today, we regularly send interesting RFPs we see in the Fed Reg to eligible
applicants, especially in situations where Marquette could be a potential
partner or subcontractor. Right now one of our Assistant Directors is
working with Milwaukee Public Schools on a Dept. of Ed. proposal for which
three faculty members will be subcontractors.
We are viewed by both faculty and CBOs as a "matchmaker" between the
university and the community. Its good community relations for the
university and great grantsmanship for the Office of Research and Sponsored
Programs. Try it!
