Are you trying to locate musical instruments for the institution's
music program? If so, isn't that an institutional responsibility? Or,
are these instruments for a particular population (at-risk kids,
etc.?) In that case, don't look for a sponsor to provide instruments
per se, look for a sponsor interested in programs for that particular
population.

Asking for musical instruments for a music program is akin to asking
for computers on a desk. What's in it for the sponsor? Unless
there's a justifiable program of interest to the sponsor attached,
you'll probably need to go the gift/donor route.
