With respect to potential research subjects without the financial ability to
participate, please read an excellent,
thoughtful article by Stuart Lind which appeared in The New England Journal of
Medicine in the late 1980's or could
be 1990 about this topic and fee-for-service research. It may help you to
formulate your thinking. I am sorry I don't
have exact reference because I just moved and everything except a few neurons is
in cartons. There is some
beneficial research underway which involves interleukin, MRI's, PET scans, etc.
which are extremely expensive
and will not be covered by insurance. Should research be limited to only those
who can pay? You are definitely
skewing your enrollment pool. Greater emphasis needs to placed upon getting all
sponsors, internal and external,
to support the full cost of conducting these studies. Would make an excellent
roundtable at a PRIM&R meeting.
