Subject:       Continuing Resolution for NSF

 For your information ......

 The February 2, 1996 Chronicle of Higher Education (p.A23), reports
 that NSF's funding level under our Continuing Resolution (CR) is at
 75% of the FY95 level.  This is INCORRECT and NSF has conveyed this
 message to the Chronicle.

 NSF is funded until March 15 under the current CR at a rate equal to
 the level in our FY96 appropriations conference report.  That level is
 $3.18 billion and under the CR, NSF will have a prorated share of that
 level to spend on all the things we normally do, until March 15.
