Susan Rausch asked about faculty receiving pay during times other
than when work was actually being done.
The only possible parallel I can think of is we have several cases in
which faculty receive summer pay for work done throughout the
year and may or may not actually be working on the project during the
particular summer pay period - but this is explained in the proposal
and the faulty member is
not doing other work or receiving other pay during the time they are
being paid from the grant. Its my impression this is not unusual
especially in smaller schools where faculty do not receive reassigned
time for research during the 9-month academic year, but again, it
needs to be clearly stated in the proposal. If the funding agency
has no objections and if its within your institutional policy, why
not?
