How does your department / institution assign proposal numbers?

1.  What is the name of your institution?

2.  Ball-park estimate of number of proposals reviewed last year?

3.  Are you the centralized Sponsored Programs Office for your institution ?

4.  Are you a department of college that assigns your own proposal numbers?

5.  If you do assign you own proposal numbers, does the sponsored programs
office adopt your numeral or assign an
 additional numeral, suffix, or prefix?

6.  Do you have problems with your current proposal numbering system?

Please respond directly to me, I will post a summary to the list.  The
reason for this survey, we have developed an electronic routing package for
approvals and proposal tracking and are in the midst of designing the
proposal numbering mechanism.  We want to explore as many scenarios as
possible prior to initiating the final design.
