Re: Strategic Plans
My department is as concerned with institutional advancement as it is
with investigator development; one cannot exist without the other in
this current environment. The Development Office and we work together
on applications to philanthropic sources and some of the restricted
private foundations. The relationship has been successful and
appreciated by the investigators. In this competitive environment of
shrinking resources, I believe that more integration is needed to
strengthen our approaches to desperately required funding. Win-Win is
working together; just define your roles and responsibilities upfront.
I do recognize that our institution may be fortunate, but both
partners have been careful to be appreciative of keeping each other
informed. I meet with the Development Committee and speak at some of
its events, and the Development Director sits on 2 of the research
committees. I wish you well in finding some of that harmony ---these
days, finding it anywhere is to be cherished.
