Software for space utilization

Meharry Medical College is getting ready to negotiate a new
indirect cost agreement with HHS and is conducting a space
survey to determine what portion of its plant is devoted to
organized research, instruction, etc. We'd like to store
the info electronically.
1. Does anyone know of commercial software for keeping track of
space?
2. If your school stores such information electronically,
what office is
responsible for maintaining the data base? Is it kept on
mainframes or PCs? The candidate offices we're looking at are
Campus Planning, Institutional Research and my office (preaward).
I really don't want the responsibility because when becomes known
the info is available electronically there will be endless
requests for reports plus the responsiblity of keeping up with
changes. I should think Campus Planning would be the best choice
and the info should be stored on the mainframe. What do other
schools do?
