POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
VICE PRESIDENT FOR RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
The University of Montana-Missoula invites applications and nominations for
the position of Vice President for Research & Development. The Vice
President will provide leadership and direction for all research programs at
the University in Missoula and will coordinate research and creative
activities at three other campuses. The Vice President reports directly to
the President of the University, acts on the President's behalf for research
activities and is responsible for research planning, program development and
developing new opportunities for research. The Vice President develops
relationships with government agencies and the private sector, strengthens
research infrastructure and nurtures ideas and research initiatives.
The University of Montana includes campuses in Missoula, Butte, Dillon and
Helena. The University of Montana-Missoula is a comprehensive,
doctoral-granting institution committed to excellence in teaching, research
and service. The University maintains nine doctoral and 43 masters'
programs, having a combined graduate enrollment of over 1,700 students, and
has rapidly growing research and creative activities.
Candidates must have an earned doctorate and a strong record of research and
other achievements, a clear understanding of the role of research and
creative activities and their relationship to graduate education,
demonstrated experience in research administration, the developed ability to
communicate effectively, and the capacity to provide leadership essential to
the continued development of research and creative activity at the University.
Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. The
position is available 1 July 1996. Nominations must be received no later
than 16 January 1996 and applications, including vitae and the names of five
references, by 16 February 1996.
