Hopefully the LAST Word on being Prepared

Our LISTSERV administrator has informed me of the following, which
should prevent future unwanted solicitations from appearing on
RESADM-L. I agree wholeheartedly with Ruth that we shouldn't reply or
take any further action toward the doofus who sent the original note -my
morning suggestion was given with a wink ;-) but I should have resisted
the temptation to even suggest it....
The lists which were "OPEN" to external subscriptions have been
changed to help protect against the spamming of these lists.
The lists are now "OPEN,CONFIRM". This means that when a user
subscribes to a list, a request for confirmation is sent to the
user, who must reply before being added to the list. This confirms
the validity of the user's address details. There is also a time
limit placed on the confirmation process.
Being that most spammers use an illegal address to do their work,
they should not receive the confirmation request, and therefore,
cannot reply.
