Conflict of Interest Procedures

At WSU, all grantwriters must submit a Transmittal Form with required,
authorized signatures to the Grants Office before a proposal may be sent off
campus. We ask NSF and HHS grantwriters to submit a completed disclosure of
financial interests form at the same time they submit the Transmittal Form.
Hence, if a potential conflict was identified, we could either be prepared
to review the situation immediately upon notification of award and/or (even
better) conduct the review while the proposal is pending.
I would guess many grantwriters, if they realized waiting to conduct a
review could delay their awards, would be glad to address the issue in
advance. Certainly nothing would prohibit taking such a proactive stance if
all parties involved agreed to do so.
