Tom - Our newly adopted policy places the responsibiltiy for
identifying and "educating" colleagues who are involved in the
design, conduct or reporting of the research or activtity proposed
for funding or funded on the project director or principal
investigator and co-principal investigators/directors.
 Our internal transmittal sheet has been modified to provide a certification
 by the principal investigator or project director (and co-pi/pds) that there is
 or is not  anyone on his/her team who has a significant financial interest
 that
 might be in conflict with the proposed project.
This process is consistent with other institutional policies - for
example the institutional biosafety policy includes a certification
by the principal investigator that all members of the research team will be
trained in and  apply appropriate and approved protocols.

It will be interesting to see how others are handling this.
