As most of you probably know, October 1, 1995 the new Objectivity in
Research policy developed by the Public Health Service and NSF went
into effect. Institutions are required to put a mechanism in place
to assure disclosure of financial conflict of interest. Currently
at UF, all key personnel (on PHS applications) are required to submit
a form indicating that they do or do not have a significant financial
interest that would appear to affect the proposed research
activities. As my fellow administrators know some program projects
and training grants may have numerous key personnel listed in the
proposal. This puts us in a situation where we have to convince
faculty to think twice about key personnel they list or be prepared
to provide signed disclosure forms for all key personnel listed.
How are other instutions handling compliance with this relatively new
policy? I'm sure that others on the list would be interested in
knowing how various institutions are complying with this policy.
Thanks in advance for your input.
Tom
