Lou,
A guy named Peter Bronson from the same paper recently did a story on
the lawsuit pending between Research Corporation Technologies and
Michigan State. Michigan State, in case you are not familiar with
the issue, is claiming breach of contract by RCT, which manages its most
successful patents (on cisplatin and carboplatin chemotherapeutics)
Michigan is claiming that RCT did not fulfil its promise to use its
share of royalties to support scientific research. Bronson did a story
on it and drew on some experience he had while in Tuscon (where RCT is
located)
when the same principals that now run RCT allegedly scammed a large Arizona
Utility out of millions. Bronson's position -- they are doing the same
thing with RCT -- lining their own pockets. Perhaps involvement in this
story has led them to look at what university's use research funding for...
Not a suprising leap. Bronson is an Associate Editor.
The reason the Cincinnati Enquirer is in on this is U of Cincinnati has
a very big patent managed by RCT. The reason I know so much about it...
we have one too and Bronson contacted me when he was writing his article.
Hope this is helpful, or at least interesting.
