development offices Ann Kratz 20 Oct 1995 15:48 EST

Our experience is much different at Indiana University. We have a superb
working arrangement with the development office. Ex: they send me copies of
their contact reports and I send them copies of search results so they'll
know which foundations our faculty may be approaching. We've put
together a brochure that tells folks who to go to for help if their
project is a grant or a gift. We've done joint open houses together and
have had joint staff training sessions so we all know what each other
is doing.

We've gotten over caring who gets to count the dollars as long as IU
gets the benefit, the donors' concerns are addressed, and the right
reports get filed. Development offices and grants offices don't necessarily
have to be in an adversarial relationship!
