 Position Announcement

TITLE: Grant and Contract Officer

CATEGORY: Permanent, full time appointment (after a probationary period)

RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide administrative services to university faculty
seeking external funding for research, instructional, and public service
projects. Duties will focus specifically on the retrieval and
dissemination of useful information to faculty about funding
opportunities; consultations with faculty about their specific funding
needs; and, institutional review of proposals prior to submission
including budgetary review.

QUALIFICATIONS: Baccalaureate degree and at least three years experience
in a comparable position is required. Master's degree preferred.
Extensive appropriate experience may substitute for the educational
requirement. Strong computer skills with databases and the internet are
also required.

The successful candidate should have familiarity with the major national
funding sources (federal, corporate, and non-profit) for faculty
research and service projects; be conversant with the applicable federal
regulations; be able to work independently and meet deadlines in a
timely fashion; communicate and interact well with faculty and
colleagues in all circumstances;and be able to function efectively in
periodic crisis environments. Experience with medical school
environments is useful but not required.

Institution: East Carolina University is the third largest of the
University of North Carolina institutions and is located 90 miles east
of Raleigh, the state capital. The University houses a College of Arts
and Sciences and eleven professional schools including a School of
Medicine. The incumbent will help service all units of the University.
