 POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

TITLE:    Assistant Director for Administration   AS# 4954

CATEGORY: Associate Staff, Full Time, 12-month appointment

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  The Assistant Director for
Administration, Office of Research Administration and
Advancement,serves as the senior technical specialist to office
staff on matters involving the review and approval of proposals
as well as in the interpretation, negotiation, and acceptance of
grant and contract conditions.

This person is responsible for effective day to day operation of
the office, supervising, training, and coordinating work
assignments for a professional and support staff of 16.  Other
duties include working with the Director and Assistant Director
for Sponsored Research Development to assure effective overall
office functioning and efficient use of department resources,
including participating in preparation and financial management
of the department's budget.

As an Assistant Director, this person represents the office on
internal and external committees and acts for the Director as
required.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Baccalaureate required, with advanced degree
preferred. A minimum of five years work experience in the field
of sponsored programs administration in a University setting is
required.  Must have knowledge of appropriate Federal regulations
and statutes, invention and copyright issues, operating
principles of research grant and contracts clauses suitable for a
university.  Must have a high level of competence in all phases
of administering externally funded research agreements and
ability of negotiate intelligently with external and internal
clientele.

Excellent communication skills, proficiency in interpersonal
techniques, ability to be sensitive to and reconcile differing
view points, and to function effectively in periodic crisis
environments is necessary.

Must be comfortable with the use of computers in all areas of
office operations.

SALARY:   Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
