BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR Industry Research Partnerships University of California, Los Angeles UCLA is seeking an innovative and enterprising individual to provide leadership for a newly created Industry Research Partnerships group within the sponsored research office. The Business Development Director works collaboratively with the Legal Director in developing and implementing an aggressive and comprehensive strategy for building effective relations with potential private industry sponsors, for linking potential sponsors to researchers at the University, for marketing existing competencies, and for developing faculty outreach programs; develops and implements symposia for industry-faculty interaction; develops networks to gain information about faculty interests and to increase faculty-industry linkages; negotiates and signs agreements with industry that maximize the positions of the University in negotiating with industry; and trains staff concerning relevant management, finance and marketing principles. Qualifications: Advanced degree in business, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Significant demonstrated business sector experience in exploiting technical and organizational innovations; developing, analyzing and executing strategies to maximize competitive position; business forecasting; marketing research and strategy; advertising, promotional strategies and other forms of marketing communication; use of internet communication technology; marketing of new technology; and new venture management. Demonstrated working knowledge of investment issues and other issues of particular concern to rapidly growing companies in an entrepreneurial setting; understanding of behavior differences in profit v. not for profit sectors; and laws and regulations governing rights in intellectual property. Demonstrated ability to supervise professional teams. Management experience in industries where the primary product is creative or intellectual preferred. Degree in engineering or science preferred. Interpersonal skills to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a multicultural, diverse body of faculty members, staff, students and industry representatives. This position is subject to University Conflict of Interest Code. Selected candidate will be required to complete a financial statement for public record. Annual salary range: $68,900 to $103,400. Starting salary dependent upon qualifications.
