We would be very concerned about several issues: how would the fee income
affect the tax liability of the University? How would the University be
protected against general liability such as personal injury to the industry
visitor on University property? How would University proprietary and
confidential information be protected from access/disclosure to industry
visitors?

At UMAB we do have research programs in which visiting scientists work in
University labs, but the visiting scientists work collaboratively with and under
the supervision of a University PI. In addition, an agreement between the
visiting scientist and the University is signed protecting the University's
rights in intellectual property.

My colleague and I are curious as to why this question of use of labs on a fee
basis has come up at your university.
