Medical Practice Plans and Sponsored Programs Alan A. Schreier 26 Jun 1995 15:14 EST

On campuses that have both a medical faculty practice plan and an office
of sponsored programs, what guidelines are to be used to assign
administrative responsibility for contracts for medical services? We are
a state supported institution and this question has recently come
forward with regard to STATE contracts for medical services to special
populations, e.g., sickle cell disease sufferers. What guidelines are
used by other universities in similar situations? Perhaps different
criteria should be applied to state contracts (which often do not cover
the cost of the services provided) and other contracts which do cover
all costs and even provide a small surplus.
