Everyone is invited to view our home page which has been "up" for about 5
months but only really useful in the last 3 months or so. For those of you
lucky enough to have direct Web access, our location is:
http://www.uno.edu --- select Office of Reseach on our campus home page to
get to what we are establishing as a sort of compendium of grant-related
info, both internal and external to our campus, a kind of network.
If your campus still does not support Mosaic/Netscape (the main graphical
browser in use), but does support Web access thru Lynx (a text version of
Mosaic/Netscape), type:
lynx http://www.uno.edu
I agree that a lot of work should go into developing a "logical"
distribution of how the displayed information should be organized.
Concerning the question on forms, there are a couple of products available
to help with this; but I wouldn't necessarily start with displaying forms.
Forms can be complicated by e-mail systems, etc. Concerning "formatting"
questions, in general HTML viewed under Netscape is having problems with things
like spreadsheet data (i.e. maintaining the columns....there are ways
around this, but depending on the width of the spreadsheet it may not look
too great). I've been told Version 3.0 of Netscape (in a few months?) is
going to correct this.
I would like to hear from those of you who are "setting up your own Web
servers" in orsp. What are some of the advantages to doing this? Does it
require special personnel to maintain?
I also am curious if NCURA is going to add a panel on WWW info & strategies
at the national conference. Would some of you find that helpful? I know I
would!
Thanks for your interest, and please feel free to share comments once
you've had a chance to view our Web page.
