restructuring of sponsored projects Debra Easterly 12 Jun 1995 08:22 EST

Eleanor,

At Black Hills State University in So. Dak. I work with a half-time
secretary on all pre-award activities and many post-award activities. I
do funding searches, prepare a newsletter, help with and prepare budgets,
edit proposals, write proposals, copy and mail proposals. We don't do it
often, but my secretary will type proposals as needed. Our finance office
sets up accounts but I keep them informed on budget requirements and
regulations to follow. I just completed a policy manual for post-award
activities at BH and do work with some faculty on project administration. I
handle the few human subject and animal care projects we have as well as
any projects dealing with patents. Payroll and purchasing go through
other offices, but if there are any problems, they come to me. Budget
changes come through the grants office before they go to the finance
office. (Of course this sounds worse than it is, since we don't have a
large number of awards to work with.) Let me know if you need additional
information.
