I need to find out if the NIAD has a small grants program in connection
with allergy & Infectious Disease. One of my PI"s believes that there is a
late June deadline on this opportunity, if indeed it exists.

My understanding is that these small grants oppotunrities vary from
institute to institute.

I am cluelss about this. I'd appreciate any information or a contact on
this. Thanks.

Hi, Spanky,

Your PI may be thinking of the Academic Research Enhancement Award
program, know affectionately as AREA grants. This program has an
application receipt date of June 21. The AREA grant program is designed
for schools who have received less than $2 M in research grants and
cooperative agreements from NIH for the last few years.

NIAID (National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases) subscribes to
the AREA program. The Program contact at NIAID is Mr. Al Czarra,
Director, Office of Program Coordination and Operations. His phone is
301/496-7291; Fax 301/402-0369; internet:xxxxxx@nih.gov.

I have a copy of the general AREA guidelines and would be glad to fax
or send to you. Let me know.

I believe NIAID also has a small grant program in at least one area of
research - sexually transmitted diseases. But you'd better check on that.
I believe the NIAID small grant program has 3 deadlines a year: Feb 1,
June 1, October 1. But you'd better double check on that, too.
