Indirect funds Nancy Peterson 18 May 1995 13:43 EST

In response to Deb's (SUNY) reply, WSU allocates indirect costs as follows:
15% to the Department of the PI
10% to the College of the PI
 15% to the library
 35% to the Grants Office
25% to the Administrative (Finance) Office

In the past I've used my portion for a Major Grant Preparation Competition.
Faculty submitting $50,000+ proposals could apply for a $1,500 award to be
used as a personal stipend or used for departmental expenses of their own
choosing. This tends to work well for the science faculty -- who can
prepare big ticket equipment grants, but tends to leave the humanities
faculty left out. Because of restricting budgets, I'm leaning toward using
the funds for matching purposes. Hence, my question on what others have
done in terms of
matching using indirect funds.
