Re: Nancy Peterson's note on Transmittal Forms and Prior Approvals
It was great to hear that we follow a similar procedure here in
Northern Ireland, to other institutions overseas.
Our staff also have to submitt internal forms countersigned by their
Head of School and Dean, prior to any proposal leaving the campus
through the Research Office. Proposals which require institutional
commitment must also be signed by one of three authorized senior
officers. This usually ensures that our central Research Office has
control over multiple submissions, which may ultimately be considered
by the 'Research Policy and Practice Committee' if necessary. This
committee is comprised of representatives from all Schools and the
Pro Vice Chancellor of Planning & Research.
Some of our staff do occasionally mutter about the "excessive form
filling", however the system works quite well. At least I now have some
evidence from the U.S. to show them that the same procedures
apply everywhere!
