Conflict of Interest policies Franci Farnsworth 11 Apr 1995 14:40 EST

Attention all you lurkers from predominanatly undergraduate institutions
with relatively small amounts of sponsored projects funding (if we
count EVERYTHING we might get to $2million):

I'd like to know how many have adopted a Conflict of Interest policy
(designed to meet the NSF requirements). The Penn State Univ one
so generously provided through RESADM seems about as basic as you can get
but it's still a couple of pages. Is the general consensus that we must
include all the specifics and can't just say we'll go with the NSF guidelines
when presented with any conflict information?

I am currently adapting PSU's policy for possible adoption at Middlebury but
I can anticipate the question -- why do we need so many words when we
anticipate few if any situations such as envisioned by the policy? I'm
trying to get some answers, from comparable size institutions.

Thanks -- and of course I'll post a summary to the list if people would
like to reply directly to me.
