POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Assistant Director is an essential member of a team
of
research administrators and support staff who provide university-wide leadership
in
developing and administering externally funded grants and contracts, in administ
ering sponsor
and University regulations regarding research and related activities, and in adv
ancing
technology transfer.
Wright State is a young and innovative metropolitan university of nearly 17,000
students with
graduate degree programs including the Ph.D., M.D., and Psy.D. Nearby Wright-P
atterson
Air Force Base and the innovative Dayton industrial community provide a high tec
hnology
environment with extensive research and development opportunities. The annual sp
onsored
project dollar volume of over $23 million has been increasing each year.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Assistant Director performs the following activities on a
regular
basis: provides project development assistance including funding searches and i
nformation
dissemination regarding funding opportunities, contact with sponsors, prepares p
roposal
budgets, assists faculty with proposal preparation; edits a newsletter for spons
ored programs
and a funding opportunity bulletin; develops and presents workshops on various a
spects of
grantsmanship; negotiates with sponsors regarding awards and project management
issues;
manages the microcomputer system; and prepares reports for units within the Univ
ersity and
various external groups.
QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates for the position must have a Master's degree and a m
inimum
of one year of experience in research administration and development or a baccal
aureate with a
minimum of three years experience. Strong organizational and interpersonal skil
ls, as well as
the ability to work enthusiastically with creative people and complex ideas, are
a must.
Experience with microcomputers is required. Experience with spreadsheets, datab
ases, online
communications (Internet, Telnet, and Gopher) preferred.
