In our draft conflict of interest policy, we are defining co-applicants to
be "anyone involved in the design, conduct and reporting of the research
results." However, now I am debating as to whether or not that should be
extended, and am leaning toward saying the policy should apply to anyone
involved in reporting research results. First, because someone other than
the PI and co-applicant could be designated the responsibility of recording
critical research results, and second, because the PI and co-applicant would
be unable to verify whether or not any particular employee working under
their direction had a conflict of interest if disclosure was not required.
I'm looking forward to other comments.
