Naming a University Research Foundation Stuart A. Ross 21 Feb 1995 21:23 EST

At Cal State Fullerton we have the task of renaming our campus foundation.
The title of "foundation" is being claimed by a new fund-raising unit,
so we must come up with something else.

The current foundation receives and manages grants and contracts
(post-award), but it also runs the bookstore and the food service
and the vending service. (This is a fairly typical combination
in the Cal State system.)

One of the leading candidates for a new name is "CSUF Enterprises, Inc."
Several faculty members feel, however, that the name is too commercial
or entrepreneurial; they fear it will give a negative impression to
potential grantors.

My question is, do you agree? Whould we choose some more neutral or
academic name, like "Auxiliary Services"?

All opinions are welcome. Reply directly to me at

Thanks.
