The Hospital is pretty strict about recovering indirect costs from
companies; drug, device or otherwise. Special approval for a reduced IDC
rate may be granted under special circumstances, but generally, the
companies with which I have dealt have agreed to the standard rate. By
providing facilities for the study (IRB reviews, patient areas, clinical
support, animal care, etc.) the company is relieved from the day to day
cost of maintaining these items. The indirect costs guarantee that the
facilities are usable and in good repair. Anything less would jeopardize
the results of the study and waste their money.
You gotta' pay the piper if you want to dance, but that doesn't polish the
dance floor. Alright, so I won't give up my day job. ;-)
