A national conference and workshop on the Academic Research
Enhancement Award (AREA)program of the National Institutes of
Health will be held on April 9 and 10, 1995 in Indianapolis,
Indiana. The purpose of the conference is to increase the
awareness of the importance of the AREA program to eligible
educational institutions, faculty, and students, thereby
generating further support. The conference will include
presentations by NIH staff and provide an opportunity to discuss
how the AREA program can be modified and improved. Also, the
program includes a session on application processing and peer
review and one entitled "NIH Update." The Sunday afternoon
workshop should be attractive to faculty who want to learn more
about the AREA program and ways to make proposals more
competitive.
The conference will feature a poster session on the results of
AREA research project(s) and participants will receive a book of
abstracts of completed AREA work.
Co-sponsors of the conference include the National Institutes of
Health, Ball State University, and the American Association of
State Colleges and Universities--Office of Federal Programs.
