There is a new "crisis" on our campus concerning the restrictions placed
upon researchers access to the names disabled students. The director of our
Divisioin of Handicapped Services does not feel comfortable providing
researchers with the names of currently enrolled disabled students. The
researchers and the IRB committee feel that directors of approved research
should be provided the names of the students, and let the students decide
whether to participate in the study.
Can you tell me how you handle information about such "vulnerable
populations" on your campus. A similar subject came up at the Seattle SRA
meeting last year, but I am not sure how it was resolved.
I would appreciate any input.
Thanks,
Becky
