DIRECTOR, DIVISION OF SPONSORED RESEARCH
AND
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
FAU RESEARCH CORPORATION
Position
The Director reports to the Dean of Graduate Studies and Research and=
is=20
responsible for the administration of all sponsored research and trai=
ning=20
activities at the University. The position is also responsible for t=
he=20
operation of the University=D5s research corporation. The Director is=
expected to=20
provide leadership in both units.
The Division of Sponsored Research (DSR) administers approximately $1=
9,000,000=20
of research expenditures and has experienced rapid growth over the pa=
st several=20
years. The office staff consists of 5 professionals, an office manag=
er and a=20
secretary. It manages the pre-award and some post-award activities. =
The DSR=20
also supports staff in the Controller=D5s and General Counsel=D5s of=
fices. The=20
Research Corporation administers a budget of approximately $1,000,000=
with a=20
staff that includes the executive director and an administrative assi=
stant. The=20
corporation=D5s primary function is to manage the University=D5s tech=
nology transfer
activities.
The duties of the director include:
*Promotion of the University=D5s efforts in research, teaching, and p=
ublic=20
service.
*Aggressive pursuit of external funding to support these activities.
*Intimate knowledge of the research and creative abilities of the fac=
ulty.
*Awareness of potential government and private funding sources.
*Assistance to faculty in proposal development.
*Oversight of the contracts and grants support services.
*Development of cross-disciplinary collaboration.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
*Masters degree or equivalent (Ph.D. prefered).
*Management experience at a university.
*Five years experience in research initiation and management in a uni=
versity=20
environment.
*Five years of experience in the development and administration of gr=
ants and=20
contracts.
*Demonstrated experience in promoting and managing the commercial dev=
elopment of
intellectual property.
*Successful record in securing research funding from federal, state, =
and private
sources.
*Detailed knowledge of federal and state regulations and compliance r=
equirements
related to university research.
*Interpersonal and communications skills needed to effectively inter=
act with=20
faculty, staff, and university =09=09=09=09administrators.
*Experience in operating a not-for-profit research corporation affili=
ated with a
university.
SALARY
Commensurate with the candidate=D5s experience and qualifications.
