Re: Gopher VS WWW Andrew J. Grant 23 Dec 1994 09:26 EST

I'm in complete agreement with Bob Schneider on the WWW issue. I have full
Internet access through CUNY, but wanted to try the Web. Subscribed to Netcom
for $20 a month - personal subscription - and have been cruising around for
about a week. Ease of use is so far beyond anything on a text based Gopher
that it defies description. You must try it to appreciate the difference.
One note of caution - shop around for a service provider. I bought a copy of
Internet-in-a-Box and was ready to use the easy connect feature when I saw that
the service was $8 per hour. Similar rates apply to WARP and will in Windows95
(or 96 or whenever). Found Netcom who has proprietary software they give away
for free - more limited than the over the counter products, but you can't beat
the price. With this and my CUNY connection - there's nothing I can't get to.
